It's not Spam. And it's not Cadillacs. But the Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale can claim to have the most accurate actual-size Stonehenge replica in the United States.

Other states have used food and cars to recreate the ancient, neolithic structure found on the Salisbury Plain of Wiltshire County, England.

Just south of Goldendale, however, Samuel Hill built an authentic and serious structure for visitors to the cliffs that overlook the Columbia River. It stands just east of the intersection at state Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 97.

In 1918, Hill dedicated his Stonehenge monument to servicemen of Klickitat County who died during World War I.

Many attempts have been made by Americans to duplicate England's Stonehenge. None come closer than this monument to World War I veterans near Goldendale.

Directions: The Stonehenge monument stands near the intersection of state Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 97.
